Gem and Mineral show!

(This is a resin ring with real flowers inside. NOTE: Not a rock)

I love collecting rocks. In fact, my entire house is filled with them. Each summer and fall the Sharonville Convention Center hosts a gem and mineral show and Terri and I can't resist it!

This show was strange because, despite the name of the annual convention it is now mostly beads. :(

Luckily the remaining gem and stone vendors are high quality! (They were where we traditionally spend most of our money each year anyway.)

This trip was extra fun because we brought friends and family to join in the geological nerding.

This rock reminds me of my sister Julie who was sporting some rainbow hair her boyfriend Keifer was quick to point out is the same color pattern as "those duster things." Well played.

Since I've taken so many photos of the spoils of the continuous trips to the gem and mineral show I wanted to photograph the stones in a fun way. I hope I achieved it. :)

(This is the boring old studio full light on seamless way)

Fool's gold!

I really love vivid color. Especially blue.

More posts about rocks?

121209 Gem and Mineral Show

This weekend was the Gem and Minral show in Sharonville Ohio. Terri and I go every year to look at shiny things!

This year's spoil includes the following!

Here's a catelog of more rocks, since I'm a huge nerd.

122008 Gem and Mineral Show Spoils

My friend Andy, Terri, and I went to the Gem and mineral show last weekend. I love rocks!
This is Celestite, the only name I remember.

I bought it because it looked like ice!

Surprisingly dense copper ball.

Blue... duh.

The reason I have two of these is because I dropped one and broke it.

I don't remember the name of this stone, but the guy told me that they put it in a chemical and it leaches out the metal in the stone.

Beautiful though!

I also got my lovely wife some jewelry and a fiber optic stone heart, but I neglected to photograph that... YET!

030108 Gem and Mineral Show Spoils

This is Labradorite, same as here.
It is my new favorite stone.

I ended up spending $160 at the show. I like shiny things.

032809 A Haunting We Will Go

Spurred on by my co-worker "Gem" and her ghost stories about book burnings I decided to make take some ghost photos as my theme this weekend.

"A Haunting We Will Go" was also the title of the 14th album I recorded under the band name Evol.

Pretty fun.

120509 Shooting Guns II

The spoils of shooting guns and an artist.

Terri put together this little symbolic gem.
An older photo of mine that Terri pointed out this weekend.

060709 Diamond!

I have this little gem in my car and I liked the way it refracts light.

122108 The Man Who Lost His Head

This little gem is an illustration from a book called
"The Man Who Lost His Head."

There were a few things that warped my childhood and I have to say this book was probably one of them.

My mother brought this home when the school she works at was cleaning out old stuff, i guess. She reminded me that I used to ask her to read it to me all the time. Looking at it now, my guess is that it was about the freaking creepy imagery! The book was published in 1943. I love the whole "Dust Bowl" look to the thing.
The Artist who drew this book was born in Hamilton OH, interestingly enough.

The illustrations are beautifully creepy! Truly worth a Click!
