A Little Fun in the Snow with Kaitlyn
I had quite a fun time last Sunday! It didn't start off so great actually, my wedding consultation got rescheduled due to some heavy snow... but...
Then my friend and model Kaitlyn "Cakeland" Smith called me up asking to participate in a snow shoot.
And I was all for that!
Despite being warned to bring warm clothes Cakeland opted for the lovely outfit you see above.
We had a brisk 20 min to capture some awesome images!
And I got to meet Lindsey, who, while cute, threatened to knife me more than once.

This Year's Snowflakes!!
Every year since I received a macro lens I have forced myself to go out into the frigid dry winter to hover over various surfaces and try not to breathe out.
It's delightful fun and I'm sure the neighbors think I have too much time on my hands.
The difficult thing is that not all snow looks pretty.
Pollution, the types of storms and how quickly the moisture froze all change the flake. Lots of times they are just little poof balls. So finding the combination of nice looking flakes at a time you aren't doing something else, and there's enough light is a challenge.
More Winter Fun with Monica, Alex, and the 600exs!
Last weekend, after the super cool bokeh shoot, I managed to talk my lovely neighbor Monica and her little guy Alex into letting me test out how my Canon 600ex speedlights in a HIGH key environment.
I had previously used a Quantum T5d or even an old Quantum Qflash both of which dumped three or even four times more power than a single 600s. On the other hand, with the 600s I can sync all the way up to 3200th of a second if I need.
It was quite a challenge, but well worth the effort! Not only did I get to Take some really great photographs for these guys, but I got to develop some really useful techniques to tame the high key environment!

Winter bokeh shoot with James Hollenberg, Lisa Ball, and the Weymans!
Last night I dusted off my creative hat (seen here, very classy) to try and take some cool snow photos with James Hollenberg!
James and I have a habit of going out into extreme conditions and "trying stuff"
This time we got part of the crew together and tried to get frostbite.
The images look great!
Umbrellas... snow is kinda frozen rain.

Nothing Beats Snowflakes!
This year so far hasn't been the best for really nice looking flakes. :(

Most people don't realize that there are lots of types of snow and some of them are fluffy oddly shaped clumps and sometimes it's perfectly formed broad flakes.
When you see that type of flake you have to jump because you might only see two or three snows where you can take good photos. Too bad for this year:)
